I'm looking for babysitters since Ryan will be gone a lot of the time these next few months. Do you know of anyone in your ward that babysits? I would need someone who can drive, since if the kids are in bed I wouldn't be able to drive them home. I also would prefer someone who would be available on school nights. I know I'm sort of asking a lot here--but would love to know if you know of anyone!
I am also probably going to be looking for a couple to watch just our girls when I go out to look at houses (probably end of November or early December). JCPenney will pay for the babysitter to stay with our kids while we are gone. I'm looking for someone who can watch them at our house, so probably someone with just one baby or kid or someone who doesn't yet have kids so as not to disrupt their lives too much. :

Interfaith Thanksgiving Meeting

President Allgaier from the stake presidency is involved in an interfaith group that meets monthly. It has produced positive relationships between the local latter day Saints and members of other faiths. Every fall this group gets together for a Thanksgiving meeting. This year the meeting will be hosted in our church building. President Allgaier has asked that we please attend. He joked and said he would be embarrassed if no one came, so let us please put his mind at ease and attend. It is a great opportunity to show our faith and to create positive relationships with individuals of other faiths.

November 16th, 7pm at stake center
There will be a choir there as well. If you would like to participate in the choir, please come at 6pm to practice before the meeting.

Skills Workshop, November 19th

Here's a schedule of what we will be doing with descriptions below:

10:00 Start in gym making crocheted necklaces; everyone (materials provided by ward)

10:45 Split into 2 groups (you choose one or the other) A: Sewing workshop OR B: No sew workshop

11:30 Lunch in gym while sisters demonstrate the Christmas Gifts on a Shoestring Budget

We need volunteers to help with these workshops. If you have a sewing machine that you would be willing to bring to this activity, please let us know at milwaukeewardreliefsociety at gmail dot com. We would like to get 10 sewing machines if possible. Also if you are an intermediate or advanced seamstress, please let us know as we could use your help in the sewing workshop. If you would be willing to bring an iron and ironing board for the no sew workshop, please also let us know.

*Crocheted Necklace Workshop: In this workshop we will all be making the beautiful crocheted necklaces that Julia Lynch and Linda Twelmeyer showed us in relief society a couple weeks ago. They are so beautiful and we will have choices of what color ribbon we would like to make them out of. The ward will provide materials for this project, however, if you have a crochet hook in sizes G, J, L, M, N, or O, please let us know and bring it.

*Choose one of the following:

-A: Basic Sewing Skills Workshop. We will learn the basics of the sewing machine and complete a simple pillowcase sewing project (as in a pillowcase for your bed, not the couch). If you would like to participate in this workshop, please bring 1 yard of 44 inch width fabric (pre-washed). This will make one queen sized pillowcase. If you would like to make a more advanced pillowcase, you can bring lace, rick rack, contrasting fabric, etc to embellish the casing.

-B: No Sew Workshop. In this workshop we will learn different techniques used to make fabric projects that do not require sewing skills. For example we will learn how to use iron on adhesive and fusible bonding web to complete a variety of projects. These tools can be used to hem pants and skirts (without sewing), to alter clothing (ex: making it more modest) and to embellish existing items (such as shirts, onesies, totes, bags, kitchen towels, etc). If you would like to participate in this workshop, you will need to bring fabric scraps and whatever item you would like to embellish (shirt, bag, etc). If you would like to hem slacks or skirts (not jeans) please bring that item.

*After the sewing or no-sew workshops are completed we will meet together in the gym to have lunch.

*During lunch we will have sisters demonstrating how to make the Christmas Gifts on a Shoestring budget (simple crafts that can be made at a reasonable price). Handouts with instructions and/or links to websites will be available for you to take home so you can have the instructions for the crafts you are most interested in.

Follow up craft nights can be arranged if sisters would like to get together to work on any of the projects!

Position playing with young children

This is Robyn Larson. Mike and I have some friends who are looking for someone to tutor two of their young children in the evenings from about 5-8pm Monday through Thursday. They have a boy, Stephen (4 ½), and a girl, Jamie (2 ½).
Let me give you a little back story to help you understand the family situation.
Mike Larson's former PhD mentor has recently started working in Chicago. His name is Ming. Ming works in Chicago Monday through Friday and comes back on weekends to spend time with his family. Ming's wife, Laura, is a medical student here at MCW and she is doing her 3rd year rotations. She has had 2 children since starting medical school. Laura's parents live with them, but their are older and by the end of the day, it's difficult for them to keep up with the young children. Since Laura and Ming are gone much of the time, the grandparents are the caretakers. But by the end of the day, the children often end up watching tv.
So this family is looking for someone to come "tutor" their children. Really what they're looking for is someone who enjoys spending time with kids to come share creative play with their children. For example: read stories, play games, imagination play, or creating activities (coloring, playdough, etc). They don't want their children to be watching TV for hours at a time every day.
They are willing to pay, but I do not have any details on how much yet. They seem very flexible so if you are at all interested, let me know and I can get you their information.

Paid Ultrasound Workshop

We’re looking for women in their late second or third trimester. Qualified physicians will be performing the ultrasounds and only your belly will be exposed. You will get to take ultrasound pictures home with you.

This year’s course will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, November 2-3, 2011 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Workshop times are from 10:20 am – 4:40 pm on Wednesday and 9:50 am – 2:30 pm on Thursday. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Parking is free.

A stipend will be paid of $50 for 1 day or $100 for both days.

Hi Sisters!
This is Robyn. Hopefully most of you have heard by now, but I'm shaving my head as part of the Shave, Brave, Save 2011 event. Danielle Logan announced this event in RS and priesthood several weeks ago. The party will be happening in West Bend (about 30 mins north) THIS Saturday (the 24th) from 11am to 6pm. It's going to be a Partay! :) So if you can make it, you should go enjoy the free entertainment! :) For more details about the event, click here. The head shaving will be done in support of children who have been effected by cancer. The money raised will go to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. It's a great cause and one my heart feels for. (read here if you want to learn more about that)
I'm not the only one from the ward shaving my head either. I believe there's a couple brothers who will be shaving their head too. :) We'd all love to see you there to support us! (I think my family will be there around 3ish)
Also, my husband, Mike, made a deal with me that if I can raise $500 then he will shave his head this Saturday too. Baby Stuff

My neighbors are moving next month and for them, that involves closing their daycare center. They will be having a rummage sale this Saturday to sell off a lot of the furniture and other baby stuff they had there. They will have cribs, toys, organizational things, etc. They are also selling a large outdoor play set. She said she just spent $3000 on it and is looking to get $1000 for it. The company that sold it to her would move it for free. I know this is out of the price range of most of us, but I told her I would put it out there. The Church has a new service website called Helping in the vineyard that is available to everyone. All you have to do is sign up for free, and you can participate in online service projects that help the Church. Different projects are split into smaller parts then given to members to work on then they are submitted back to the Church and reviewed before being used. There are many different things to do from translations, to indexing, to sorting media and most things only take a minutes to complete. Check it out at http://vineyard.lds.org/.

Unpacking and Nanny needed

Thanks to all who helped on Monday with the Silla family. Diane is still in need of some help unpacking boxes. She is a full time teacher and would like help in the afternoons and evening unpacking boxes. This is a standing invitation, so just call to make sure she is available before you head over there. She starts school pretty soon I think if she hasn't already and would like things unpacked as soon as possible. Also her and her husband Micheal are looking for a NANNY for their two sons from 8 in the morning until 3:30 to 4;00 ish each day. I know some ladies have been nanny's in the past and I thought this might be a great opportunity for them, as of right now they are looking on Craigslist but would like people they know and trust with their kids! A couple of things

First, Frontier Airlines is having a sale on tickets to Utah. Tickets to SLC or Provo are $94 each way. It’s only for a few more days. Purchase by 8/11 for travel through 12/15/11.

Second, if you haven’t already, you should check out the reading program at the Wauwatosa library. Go to the children’s desk and ask for a reading program form. Infants to five year olds have to listen to 40 books, kids 6 and up have to read 10 books. Once they have completed the reading you can turn them in for some pretty great coupons – a free meal at Noodles, free pan pizza from Pizza Hut, admission to the zoo, the Big Backyard, and more. Once you have turned in your first list, you can get a second list, which is just reading 5 non-fiction books and you get more coupons. The program ends August 31st, so you still have a few weeks. You do have to have a library card, and kids of any age can participate (babies and up).

The Church is seeking approval from the City of Greenfield for the rezoning of a property that is a potential site for a new chapel. On August 16th at 7:15 pm the Greenfield City Council will be meeting to vote on that proposal. Early indications suggest that we may not receive approval for a variety of reasons. This coming Sunday, we are asking that members of the Milwaukee Wisconsin North Stake include this in their fasting, asking that Heavenly Father soften the hearts of the aldermen that evening. It is anticipated that this building would house both members of the Spanish Branch of our stake as well as a South Stake ward. This location is a beautiful site and is the culmination of a search that has taken place over the past five years. Thank you for your support.

I'm sorry but I have been unable to find an alternative person for childcare, and because of the problem this places on the majority of those who would like to attend, I am reluctantly going to cancel the class for the summer. I have communicated your interest to Bro. Scott Wheeler in having an Institute class for both the North and South stakes. Bro. MacDonald, the Area Director, also knows that this class serves an important purpose. So my hope is that a class will be available in the fall of 2011. There are a lot of diaper research opportunities out there. I’ve tried a few and come across this one: http://nietoresearch.com/. You don’t get paid for it, but you do get free diapers, and it’s super easy. All you do is track the diaper changes, do a questionnaire as you finish each product and then one final survey at the end. No returning nasty diapers! I’m doing one right now with Ben and I got 20 regular Huggies, 20 Kirkland brand and 20 Huggies supreme. I have tested Pampers and other brands in the past, as well as Pull-ups. Like I said, you don’t get paid, but I got 2 weeks of free diapers. They also test wipes and tampons.

Mike and I worked as sales people for Living Scriptures the summer before we moved out here. One of the great things about that job was that we got almost all of the animated scripture videos as bonuses. In fact we got some duplicates. We also have some extras of the videos that we’d use to show people the products. I grew up watching these videos and love them!

But we have no reason to have all these duplicate DVD’s around our house, so I thought I’d see if any of ya’ll would be interested in them. Each DVD is about 30 mins long and retails for $30 through the Living Scriptures company, although I have seen a few of them in Deseret Book for $20.

The Living Scriptures Company wanted to make a movie series to compete with Disney. They came up with the Swan Princess Series. Between the Princess Odette and her archer hero, Prince Derek, boys and girls alike seem to enjoy these movies. Each DVD’s plot can stand on it’s own, or they are great together as a series. I’ve seen these DVD’s at Walmart for $15 a piece.

Free kids stuff

I have a swing and a tool bench that need a new home. The swing is in great condition - none of my kids really loved it. It's a jungle-type print and it has a removable toy tray.

The tool bench is older, it was a hand-me-down when I got it. It's in good shape though. There are some screws and nails to pound into the one side, and a sink on the other. The table on the side is folded down in the picture. I do have a dowel that supports it, but my kids prefer to use it as a sword so I took it away.

King Bed

We have a king size bed and box springs that I need to get out of the basement. It has had a mattress topper on it the whole time we have used it so it's still in pretty good shape. It does dip in a little on the sides where we slept, and one of the kids drew on it while it was down there. It would make a great guest bed if anyone has the need. If there are any moms out there with a 5 year old in Milwaukee, this is a great school to check out. Carter has gone there since K3 and has loved it. Samantha is attending K3 there now. They only teach K3-K5, so it's a great place to start. They have a great teacher-student ratio (Carter's K5 class currently has 15 students with a teacher and an assistant). They do need a few more K5 students or they risk losing some of their funding. Just thought I would put the word out. The McMullins, the Roberts, the Fawsons and the Cannons have all had children attend this school. If you have any questions, you are more then welcome to contact me (Linda Chaplin).

Paid Ultrasound Workshop

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Department of Family and Community Medicine sponsors an annual 2-day Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Course for community physicians, family medicine residents and nurses in obstetrical emergencies. There are generally between 40-50 participants. During the course, participants rotate through seven different workshops. One of the workshops is Ultrasound.

We’re looking for women in their late 2nd trimester or 3rd trimester to perform ultrasounds on. Qualified physicians will be performing the ultrasounds and only your belly will be exposed. You will get to take ultrasound pictures home with you.

This year’s course will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 14-15, 2010 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Workshop times are from 10:20 am – 4:40 pm on Thursday, October 14th and 9:50 am – 2:35 pm on Friday, October 15th.

Personalized Temple Packets

A woman in the Philippines makes temple packets with a temple, name and date of marriage or whatever you want embroidered on it. She is taking orders at this time for Christmas. In the past we have ordered them and they were a big hit among the people receiving them as a gift. Comparable packets cost a lot more. She is struggling financially and does this on the side for extra income also her country has been touched by a typhoon and this will help her out a lot.

We are making ridiculously gorgeous homemade watches out of beads that will make all your friends jealous. We will be ordering supplies next week so we need to know how many of you want to commit to a great time. It is $7.00 for all the supplies to make your watch or $4.50 if you will be bringing your own beads. We will have an abundance of brown, silver, and black beads for your use if you opt for the $7.00 option. The most important of the crafts/activities are the Countdown Blocks and Family Home Evening Magnet Boards because they have to be ordered by next Sunday 10/25, so here's a picture of both and more to come soon!

Newsflash from Goodwill Industries

Goodwill Industries will open a new retail store Sept. 25 at 12121 W. Feerick St. in Wauwatosa.

The store is in a 39,000-square-foot former industrial building near the intersection of W. Capitol Drive and N. 124th St. The selling floor will take up 19,000 square feet, making it the largest Goodwill store in the area. The rear of the building will be used as a warehouse and distribution center.

"We are on a trend for growth," said Goodwill spokeswoman Cheryl Lightholder. 'The economy is helping us."

This is the second new store for Goodwill this year, following the recent opening of the agency's Retique boutique shop in the Third Ward. With the new store, Goodwill will have eight stores in the metro Milwaukee area.

The Retique is located at 190 N. Broadway, Milwaukee, and is an upscale version of Goodwill with namebrand apparal.

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Department of Family and Community Medicine sponsors an annual 2-day Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Course for community physicians, family medicine residents and nurses in obstetrical emergencies. There are generally between 40-50 participants. During the course, participants rotate through seven different workshops. One of the workshops is Ultrasound.

We’re looking for women in their late 2nd trimester or 3rd trimesters. Qualified physicians will be performing the ultrasounds and only your belly will be exposed. You will get to take ultrasound pictures home with you.

This year’s course will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 1-2, 2009 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Workshop times are from 10:20 am – 4:40 pm on Thursday, October 1st and 9:50 am – 2:35 pm on Friday, October 2nd.

Mazur/Zachow Research is currently looking for MOMS OF CHILDREN AGE NEWBORN-36 MONTHS that would be available to participate in a baby products study on Tuesday, August 25th or Wednesday, August 26th. MOMS MUST BE BETWEEN 21 AND 45 YEARS OF AGE. The study would take place at our offices in Brookfield, and sessions would last 2 hours. A variety of session times are available between 9:00AM and 5:30PM each day. Qualified participants would receive $60 (evening groups) or $75 (daytime groups) for their time and input.

They have just recently moved from our ward to Arizona where Brittney has fallen gravely ill and her doctors do not expect her to survive. Kids Classes This Summer

1) I am going to have Summer art class in my home this summer... Have done it in the past and it was a blast. Kids will get dirty:)
no cost only materials.
It will be two hours long and I will keep a (rotating) parent as helper for each class.
My background in art is that I was a Fine art major then changed it to Design/ Photography:)
Age group: 4-5 years
Am thinking of having another group for younger kids Ian's age which is 2-3 (Will have to see if there are some interest)

Free Fishing and State Parks Open House

Saturday and Sunday, June 6th-7th, 2009

Every year, the first consecutive Saturday and Sunday in June is designated as Free Fishing Weekend throughout the state of Wisconsin. All the waters of the state are open, including state waters of the Great Lakes and rivers bordering Wisconsin. Residents and nonresidents of all ages can fish without a fishing license (or trout or salmon stamps) over these two days. State Park Open House Day June 7

I am looking for 3 half to full days per week of child care for my current 6 month old girl, Emily, starting end of June. We will need the care for about 1 year. My schedule is variable week to week, as I will be working at St Joes ER on different shifts. My husband is the pediatric chief resident next year and will have regular hours of approx 7:30am-5:30pm daily. I will know my schedule 1-2 months in advance. Emily is being transitioned to bottle feeding and this would be provided. I will also provide daily food and diapers. She has no medical problems or allergies to be aware of.

Please let me know if you know of anyone who is looking for such a situation. Since daycare is about $50 per day, that was what I had in mind. However, this is negotiable.

Mazur/Zachow Research is looking for MOMS OF CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 10-24 MONTHS that would be available to participate in an IN-HOME DIAPER TEST. The project would require testing diapers for a one week period beginning Monday, May 11th.

Qualified participants would receive $50 upon completing the test.

**PLEASE NOTE: This study would involve picking up the test diapers and usage diary on May 11th at a research facility in OAK CREEK. You would use the diapers for a week, then return to the same facility to drop off your usage diary and any unused product. You would receive your $50 payment at that time.

Gorgonzola Pasta
1 lb. Gorgonzola cheese (2 cups)
¼ cup butter
2 cups heavy cream
½ tsp. white pepper
½ tsp. nutmeg
1 package Ziti or Penne pasta

On very low heat, melt butter with cheese. Using a wooden spoon, press the cheese to melt it quickly. DO NOT BOIL. Add cream and spices. Keep warm and add cooked pasta and toss together. Serve hot with parmesan cheese.

No-Knead Bread
3 cups all-purpose or bread flour, more for dusting
¼ tsp. instant yeast
1 ¾ tsp. salt
Cornmeal as needed

1. In a large bowl combine flour, yeast, and salt. Add 1 ½ to 1 5/8 cups water (here in Wisconsin, I usually need to use close to 2 cups), and stir until blended; dough will be shaggy and sticky. Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let dough rest at least 12 hours, preferably about 18, at warm room temperature, about 72 degrees.

2. Dough is ready when its surface is dotted with bubbles. Lightly flour a work surface and place dough on it; sprinkle it with a little more flour and fold it over on itself once or twice. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rest about 15 minutes.

3. Using just enough flour to keep dough from sticking to work surface or to your fingers, gently and quickly shape dough into a ball. Generously coat a thin cotton towel or cheesecloth (not terry cloth) with cornmeal; put dough seam side down on towel and dust with more flour, bran or cornmeal. Cover with another cotton towel and let rise for about 2 hours. When it is ready, dough will be more than double in size and will not readily spring back when poked with a finger.

4. At least a half-hour before dough is ready, heat oven to 450 degrees. Put a 2 ½ quart heavy covered pot (cast iron, enamel, Pyrex, or ceramic) in oven as it heats. When dough is ready, carefully remove pot from oven. Lift the bread with the towel and turn dough over into pot, seam side up; it may look like a mess, but that is ok. Shake pan once or twice if dough is unevenly distributed; it will straighten out as it bakes. Cover with lid and bake 30 minutes. Then remove lid and bake another 5-8 minutes, until loaf is beautifully browned. Cool on a rack. Yields one 1 ½ pound loaf.

Spaghetti Sauce
1 lb. Jimmy Dean’s ground sausage
1 lb. ground chuck
4 cloves crushed garlic
1 medium yellow onion, chopped

Brown meat and drain excess fat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, then add:

1 – 2 lb. can tomatoes (either diced or stewed and blend in a blender)
1 – 12 oz. can tomato paste
1 – 12 oz. can water
1 Bay leaf
¼ tsp. thyme
1 tsp. salt
¼ pepper
1 ½ tsp. basil
1 ½ tsp. oregano
4 T. sugar
½ cup Red cooking wine

It’s best if you can let it simmer after adding all the ingredients for about an hour.

Tortilla Soup
4 chicken breasts cooked and cubed (I like to BBQ)
1 onion diced
2 cloves garlic
1 – 10 oz. can stewed tomatoes
1 – 10 oz. can tomatoes with chilies
1 – 4 oz. can diced green chilies
1 – 2 cups frozen corn
1 can chicken broth and 1 can of water
2 cans beef broth

To add:
5 oz.-roasted red peppers
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
½ tsp. chili powder
1 – 2 tsp. cumin
2 tsp. Worchester sauce
Dash of hot sauce (Tabasco or Tapatillo)

Toppings:
Cubed avocado
Monterey Jack cheese
Limes
Sour Cream
Tortilla Chips - crushed
Finely chopped cilantro
